All of these years the office has been on Chardon’s Corner at Annerley, in three different positions. In 1933, Robert Matthews and son, Les Matthews, opened the doors at 632 Ipswich Road after Les had served a stint of a few years in the late 1920’s with agent John Coleman of Queen Street Brisbane. In September 1965 the office moved across the road to 653 Ipswich Rd and in June 1983 the move to the current office at 678 Ipswich Road (Corner Cracknell Road) occurred. The shopping centre has not changed a great deal over the past 30 years and most of the original buildings of that time are still in place, although the tenant structure has changed fairly significantly to keep up with modern trends. It is also fairly certain that some major re-developments will take place in the centre in the foreseeable future. The local population mix has also changed significantly over recent years and whilst there is a lot of renovation of the homes taking place, there is also a lot of redevelopment by way of units and townhouses. Annerley is only 5 kilometres from the city, and has easy access to the South East Freeway and the Ipswich Motorway. All amenities are at your fingertips, including Yeronga College of TAFE, Annerley Junction Shopping Centre, several private and state schools and bus and rail public transport. |
