R.Matthews & Son Pty Ltd is the oldest established family real estate company in suburban Brisbane. It was first established in 1933 by Robert Matthews along with his son, Les, hence the name R.Matthews & Son. Grandsons Trevor and Ken Matthews are sons of the son and great-grandsons Russell and Darren Matthews are the latest additions who are in terms of progression, “the sons of the son’s sons”.

Robert and Les were involved in selling property in the district and also conducted an Auction Room at 632 Ipswich Rd, Chardon’s Corner, Annerley. The company has been in the same shopping precinct for over 70 years.

How times have changed! One of the early sales files shows a sale of a property at Annerley and a brindle cow was included in the sale price. The first sale made by the current co-principal, Trevor Matthews, was in 1962; the property was an old house at Woolloongabba which sold for 2750 pounds ($5500) on a deposit of 500 pounds and the balance was owner financed. The first sale by the latest generation, Russell Matthews, was at Annerley. It was a home unit (home units were not heard of in the 1930’s to mid 1960’s period) for $107,000 in 1998.

R.Matthews & Son is proud of its long real estate history and will continue into the 21st Century applying the same family principles and maintaining the tradition built on trust.
